To ensure focus and successful execution, RREDA manages its activities as projects and initiatives. Each of the five key strategies contains a number of projects and initiatives as noted below. 1. Increase Start-ups
a. Springboard West – Establish a thorough implementation plan for an innovation centre including business participation and funding.
b. Progress2Capital Business Planning Competition – Complete the third competition.
c. Canadian Police Research Centre (CPRC) – Support the relocation of the CPRC research facility to Regina and attract related security focused businesses.
d. RAIN – Support the Regina Angel Investor Network as an active player in SAINT.
e. RREDA/Treaty Four Task Force – Use the RREDA/Treaty Four Task Force to identify projects and initiatives that will increase the number of jobs created for Aboriginal people, the level of entrepreneurship, and the amount of investment in the economy by Aboriginal people.
2. Improve Regional Logistics
a. Container System Expansion – Support stakeholders in obtaining Federal funding for related highway infrastructure.
b. Industrial Park – Support development of an industrial park near the new multimodal container port.
c. Partner Initiative – Work with SREDA, Sask Agrivision, STEP, and MJREDA to:
1. Develop duty deferral and bonded warehouse opportunities
2. Explore shipper co-operation to enhance market efficiency
3. Balance exports with increased imports
4. Improve road and highway infrastructure
3. Increase Strategic Investment
a. Property Tax Exemption Program – Support businesses that serve growth objectives.
b. Attract Assembly/Distribution Firms – Develop a marketing plan to attract firms that will utilize the multimodal facility.
c. Jinan Business Development Office – Pursue stronger China – Saskatchewan relationships by opening reciprocal business development offices in Jinan and Regina.
d. Regina Research Park – Market this new and fast growing park.
e. Immigration – Support the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) in attracting new residents and businesses.
4. Attract and Retain Talent
a. Building Talent – Develop an attractive “community of choice” by assisting businesses in becoming competitive “employers of choice.”
b. Future Leaders Group – Provide a youth perspective on economic activity and build an understanding of what attracts and retains youth.
c. Regina Region Image – Branding, hub website and ‘Shaping Regina’ are initiatives that build a positive and coordinated internal and external image.
5. Develop Environment and Energy Opportunities
a. Poly-generation – Mobilize stakeholders to ensure an industry initiated electrical utility is fairly considered by the province.
b. Waste Heat/CO2 Greenhouses – Explore feasibility of greenhouses to utilize waste heat and CO2 from projects such as poly-generation.
c. Green Subdivisions – Support developers and the City in defining the potential for a green subdivision.
d. Road Science Project – Act as a catalyst to establish an advanced road system science training and research institute in Regina.
e. Effluent Irrigated Biomass Plantation – Support feasibility assessment of incorporating an effluent irrigated biomass system in the re-engineering of the city sewage treatment system.
