Communities East of Regina Sign Agreement to Pursue Regional Development

Today, the Towns of Balgonie, White City, Pilot Butte and the Rural Municipality of Edenwold met to sign an agreement to work together on a cooperative regional planning initiative which includes shared delivery of municipal services.

Saskatchewan to bid 2013 JUNO Awards in Regina & Moose Jaw

On June 22 in Toronto, the 2013 JUNO host committee, chaired by Mike MacNaughton of Twisted Pair Productions and president of the Sask Music, will be officially presenting a bid proposal to the Canadian Academy of the Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) to host the JUNO Awards Weekend events and related activities in Regina and Moose Jaw in April 2013.

2010 IIHF World Junior Championship Economic Impact Assessment Released

The economic impact assessment of the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship was released today by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA). The event was held in Regina and Saskatoon from December 26, 2009 to January 5, 2010.

RROC Offers Downtown Visitor Services in New Office Space

The Regina Regional Opportunities Commission (RROC) has officially settled into our renovated new space at 1925 Rose St. Newly branded signage accompanied the staff and was in place on Monday, April 19 as the staff began their move. The downtown location’s street level access enables RROC to welcome visitors into the office and provide them with information and tourism services.

International CCS Centre to be located at the U of R

The Government of Saskatchewan, Royal Dutch Shell and the University of Regina today announced a new international centre that will help make western Canada a world leader in the worldwide deployment and acceptance of Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS).

“Regina Day” will celebrate the city at the Olympics

The spotlight will be on Regina at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The City of Regina, in cooperation with Regina Regional Opportunities Commission, will host “Regina Day” on Saturday, February 13at the Saskatchewan Pavilion in Vancouver.

Business succession pilot begins

The Saskatchewan Business Succession pilot project matches those selling businesses in Saskatchewan with targeted buyer groups to ensure successful business transitions. The pilot is partnership between RROC and the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority, with support from the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour.

Major Expansion Project at Evraz Regina

Evraz Regina Steel and Tubular celebrated the official opening of a $90 million (Canadian) expansion at the corporation's tubular division, which has increased spiral weld large diameter pipe production in Regina by two-thirds and resulted in one hundred new jobs.

Loblaw Companies Ltd. Announces Distribution Facility

On July 29, 2008, it was announced that Loblaw Compaines Ltd. would be the first anchor tenant leveraging the CP intermodal facility within the planned distribution and logistics park. The new facility when completed will be nearly a million square feet in size and is expected to generate 750 jobs within two years and as many as 1,500 jobs by 2017.

The Saskatchewan Government and RREDA held a media conference Feb. 25 to launch the Saskatchewan Enterprise Region (ER) program. Under the ER program, RREDA is receiving more funding and will be providing expanded regional economic development services.

Regina tops Canadian cities for economic momentum

An economic report released December 17 shows that for the first time Regina is the number one city in Canada in terms of economic growth.

 

The CIBC World Markets Metropolitan Economic Activity Index report attributes this momentum to Regina's population growth, job creation, low unemployment rate and lower than average bankruptcy rates for individuals and corporations. The report compares growth from the third quarter of 2008 with the third quarter of 2007.
